I run a fantasy baseball league composed almost entirely of my good friends. We are entering our second year of a dynasty league and tonight was our keeper deadline. I made a couple of moves and I can keep all of these players for 2011 at the same value.
Traded Hunter Pence ($12) for Casey McGehee ($1) and a third round pick in the supplemental draft that follows the auction. This pick will be either a key reserve or a quality minor leaguer.
Traded Adrian Gonzalez ($27), Jordan Zimmermann ($5) and Rickie Weeks ($6) for Cliff Lee ($21), Jason Heyward ($15) and Roy Oswalt ($5)
I'm really happy with the McGehee deal, but I can't figure out how much I like the second deal. Gonzalez was supposed to be untouchable for me, but I found out Heyward was supposed to be untouchable for my trade partner. Both players should be much better this year. I traded a very good value on Weeks and sold Zimmermann, but the opportunity to grab both Lee and Oswalt was one I could not pass up. Deadline deals are fun in these leagues!
That leaves me with the following eight keepers:
Casey McGehee ($1)
Ryan Braun ($40)
Nelson Cruz ($16)
Logan Morrison ($3)
Trevor Cahill ($5)
Roy Oswalt ($5)
Cliff Lee ($21)
Tim Hudson ($5)
Yes, I'm very pitching heavy and three of my four offensive players are outfielders. Neither one of those things is a good one. Truth be told, I did not have great keepers.
Among my non-keepers:
Chris Carpenter ($30)
Austin Jackson ($1)
Jose Valverde ($8)
Gordon Beckham ($14)
Travis Wood ($6)
I gave the most serious thought to Jackson, but I did not need another outfielder and my league also uses OPS, where he is weak. Beckham was on the radar and so was Wood.
Now it is time to begin prepping for the auction, which is just a week away. Anyone have any thoughts on my trades and keepers?
